As the daughter of a young mother who chose life, Erica grew up witnessing the power of courage, sacrifice, and God's provision. Her mother faced an unexpected pregnancy as a young college student and made the difficult decision to choose life despite an uncertain future.
Later, God brought a wonderful man into their lives who adopted Erica as his own. He didn't just marry her mother — he chose her too, loving her unconditionally and never allowing her to feel like anything less than his daughter. Through the examples of both her mother and father, Erica learned that love is more than a feeling; it is a choice, a sacrifice, and one of the clearest reflections of God's grace.
Raised in a family devoted to faith and service — a mother who was a teacher, a father who served in law enforcement — she learned early that serving others often requires sacrifice, perseverance, and a willingness to put others first.
What felt like the end of her plans became the beginning of a deeper understanding of God's grace, redemption, and faithfulness.
Years later, Erica found herself facing an unexpected pregnancy as a college student. Through that experience, she learned firsthand that God often writes stories far better than the ones we would have written for ourselves.
For more than twenty years, Erica and her husband Joshua — a Purple Heart combat veteran — have navigated military life, combat injuries, recovery, parenting, and the everyday challenges of marriage and family. Although they didn't date in high school, they shared one distinction: both were voted Class Clown. Years later, that shared sense of humor would become one of God's greatest gifts in helping them weather life's hardest seasons.
When Joshua was seriously injured in Afghanistan, Erica suddenly found herself not only as a young wife and mother of two toddlers, but also as a caregiver helping her husband navigate recovery and the difficult road that followed. Together they faced surgeries, rehabilitation, uncertainty, and the invisible wounds that often accompany combat. Through that season, Erica learned what it means to love sacrificially, persevere when life feels overwhelming, and trust God one day at a time.
Together they have learned to cling to their faith, laugh often, and trust God's plan — even when the road ahead seemed uncertain.
Today, Erica and Joshua are raising three boys who continue to inspire, challenge, and humble them. Becoming a mother at a young age meant Erica often felt like she was growing up while raising her children. Like most parents, she and Joshua have made mistakes along the way and continue to learn as they navigate parenting young adults.
Their desire has been to raise young men who are strong in character, love Jesus, willing to work hard, treat others with respect, and courageous enough to stand for what is right. In a culture that often sends mixed messages about manhood, they've sought to teach their sons to be both strong and compassionate, confident yet humble, and grounded in faith. Two of their sons are now in college — one playing college football and the other pursuing a future in turfgrass management — while their youngest is still in high school with a heart for missions, creativity, and serving Jesus through the arts.
A proud Virginian and passionate American, Erica's love for country was deepened through years spent alongside military families and surrounded by some of America's heroes. She often jokes, "You can't spell America without Erica," but beneath the humor is sincere gratitude for the freedoms and opportunities made possible by the brave men and women who serve our nation.
Erica also serves her community as an elected school board member, working on behalf of students, families, and staff. Having overcome her own learning challenges, she understands that success doesn't always follow the same path for everyone. She is passionate about helping others recognize their God-given strengths and believes there are many different paths to a meaningful and successful life — whether through academics, skilled trades, athletics, the arts, military service, entrepreneurship, or countless other callings.
Whether speaking about faith, motherhood, marriage, military family life, leadership, service, or overcoming adversity, Erica's message remains the same: God is faithful, even in the chapters we never would have chosen. Through honest storytelling, practical encouragement, and humor woven throughout, her desire is simple — to remind others that God is still writing their story, and that His sovereignty, grace, and faithfulness can be trusted on every page.
